Half Mast

This isn't the first time I've seen a flag flying half mast and wondered OMG! What happened. I don't watch TV, rarely listen to the radio and get most of my news from the Internet but I go find that news, so I am a little sheltered from mass media and I like it that way. Back to my photo of the day. There is a website you can go to called www.halfmast.org where you can find out why flags are flying at half mast. Somewhere along the timeline we as a state and country have started flying flags at half mass for whatever individual has died. Really? Really it's no longer a huge deal like the president died. Or it's memorial day so we will honor all fallen soldiers. So I look it up because I want to know why and we in the state of Washington are honoring a fallen state trooper on March 1, 2012. Hmm doesn't tell me why it's half mast today and why it was half mast yesterday. And like my friend Yvette said tonight "He was doing his job". I have to agree with he. Also our flag no longer has meaning. So sad.

Veins

I admit it's one of the first things I look at on a person I am triaging in the ER, their veins. Everyone has them, some are more visible than others. I have acquired a new skill of being able to feel them even if I can see them. This is a picture of my own hand which was quite difficult to shoot. It's hard keeping the camera steady with the hand that also pushes the trigger.

Pinnacle

Tim was busy posting a photo which guilted me into thinking "oh yeah, I need to post a photo". This is Tim asking me if I like a particular photo he has shot today. I said Yes!!

Cafe

My friend Traci got this coffee making machine called Nespresso. Each one of these little capsules you see here will make a Dee LISH Us cup of coffee to put in one of the cups you see stacked next to it. What's more fun than that is when she says "Bon Jour" before she drinks a cup. It's the simple things in life.

Drug Pusher

Reality is I am at work and yesterday was so busy that I didn't get a photo. Nor did I get lunch, a break or a chance to sit down. Tonight is turning out better so far. This is a photo of one of our drug bins in our medication room. Seriously, sometimes I feel like a drug dispensary and sometimes I really am.

Dinner

Tim and I went to the grocery store today and this is what we got. $40 later. Isn't it crazy what you pay for these days. I was all impressed because it was "good for you" food. Next week top A ramen.

A Bear

Waiting for my dentist appointment, I'm
sitting on this comfy sofa with this cute little fellow. He looks so content to just hang in this special little place.

My Ride

It's bike season again. Well I've started riding my bike again as long as the weather cooperates (no snow or ice). This is a picture of my mountain bike's rear cogs. I love my husband and then I love my bikes.

Go Fast

"Go Fast" is the nickname my dad gave my son's dad when we were married because he always liked faster cars or faster motorcycles. He would look at magazines with car parts that would make a vehicle "better" than it was. This photo taken on the the ferry on our way home reminded me of that. Of course we had to sit by the "gaming" central. But it gave me a picture for the day.

The MarQueen Hotel

We celebrated a friend's 50th birthday tonight by going out to Teatro Zinzanni in Seattle. It's a fun theatre dinner thing they do about 5 nights a week. The MarQueen is an older hotel right around the corner and offers great deals with the Teatro experience. I'm not sure how we got upgraded to a suite but really who is going to ask ? This is a picture of part of our room. I am being engulfed by this bed. Sleep tight.

Tonight was photo shoot date night and while my husband, the master of photography, my best friend and yum yum was setting up our living room studio I got snapped him in action.

Say cheese

My friend and partner in crime for the night at Island Hospital ER, Mimi graciously posed for me so I could stop looking for a photo.

Code Blue

One night I really needed this button and couldn't find it. Look! It's right there. Luckily I knew the number to overhead page and got the help I needed.  For Valentines Day, it does have to do with your heart. :)

No Imagination

These are my work shoes. Because I am getting ready for work and haven't come up with a picture yet today so this is my punt. These are very comfortable shoes. They are called alegrias, and made in Spain I believe. They remind me of Birkenstocks.

Hey Look

This photo was taken right after my last posted photo. Random people catching the moon rising as we are coming into Anacortes.

Ohhhhhhh

This photo was taken on February 6, 2012. Tim and I were on the ferry from Friday Harbor to Anacortes near sunset. Little did I know but would find out later it was "gloaming".  And I did
not have to work the full moon.  Hurray!!

Beaver?

I'm out on Cranberry Lake Trail again and I noticed this fresh looking, hacked down tree. I wonder but I am thinking maybe a beaver did this although it's not really near what could be a dam. The little cuts look too small to be an axe though. What else could a animal do that for? Hmmm?

It Used To Be KC

In 2006, Tim and I took a mountain bike trip in Utah with two other couples from New York. We got into a discussion about Krispy Cremes vs. Tim Horton's in Canada. They thought Tim Horton's were "the bomb". Krispy Creme was new to our area at the time and not that we were big doughnut connoisseurs but it was off island so it was always a little treat if we happened to be in Burlington and had time to stop and get a Krispy Creme. I drove by there today and it was no more. I felt sad the Krispy Creme was gone. The one really cool thing I loved about this place was how you could watch the doughnuts being made through this big window. I think you could follow their little doughnut beginnings from dough, to cooked, to frosted and finally to mouth.

Blossoms of February

I'm sure these berries aren't blossoms but it made for a nice title. I walked my canine chums to the gravel pit from our house today. We dodged the rain and on the way back I saw these lined on the outside of someone's fence bordering their home. It's the kind of vibrant color one needs with these kind of dreary days. I heard Pucksetony Phil saw his shadow so 6 more weeks of winter.

My Favorite

Oh Boy! A trip to Friday Harbor. Tim and I get to dog sit. This is really a treat with these to eager chums. They are ready for any outdoor adventure. Check them out in the side mirrors. "Maddy & Diego, Are you ready for a ride?"

Yvette s Bday Party

Yvette's birthday was January 14 and she wanted a game night for her present. A bunch of us were going to get together when she got sick and had to cancel. Tonight was the make up party. So we brought the cranium game and this is the new version where one of the categories is "sideshow", one of your team is the puppet and one is the puppeteer. This picture is of Yvette and Mike, Jodi's husband.

Super Bowl Sunday

Tim and I went to our friend's Janice and John's for Super Bowl today. I had it in my head that I would make these German Chocolate Cupcakes. I got the recipe from one of my ancestors on my dad's side of the family. Her name is Goldie (Beck) Felton and she gets all the credit for these mouth watering, palate pleasing, chocolate treats that "don't suck"(borrowed from my friend Traci)!!! I am in love with "scratch" recipes and if you like German Chocolate Cake this is the one. Today was good company and good food that made up for a not so impressive Super Bowl and a few winning commercials. Better luck next year.

Gone Bananas

We had a totally unexpected day that turned out fabulous. We had a tax date that was postponed to take photos to the library for display, then the Kalu'ak fishing derby and lunch. We sat down to do taxes at 3 pm but it won't work on the Mac so we went and visited family instead. Ah good times. But wait I need buttermilk for tomorrows cupcakes, so off we went to the store 15 minutes before they closed and I got today's photo.

Cleaned

I've been running around the house shooting everything I can think of. But this picture of our bedroom bathroom is the one. I spent most of my day cleaning and then promptly took a nap.
I always feel good after I clean and now I can relax until next month when it's my turn again.

Ambiance

Tim and I went to Downrigger's for dinner tonight. I took 3 photos of this shell covered candle on the table. One with a flash made the holder look plastic, the other shot was taken with me holding the camera, natural light but was too blurry. Tim suggested holding the camera while it was positioned on the table for support and viola' my post. Dinner was "too good to be true", A clam chowder bowl with a Caesar salad. Mmmmmm!!!

Undercoat

This was much more impressive in person. But this is Maddy after she was furminated. I was furminating her before with my hand. She likes the butt scratches. Not an excellent photo composition or good focus so I'll keep at it.
