Half Mast

This isn't the first time I've seen a flag flying half mast and wondered OMG! What happened. I don't watch TV, rarely listen to the radio and get most of my news from the Internet but I go find that news, so I am a little sheltered from mass media and I like it that way. Back to my photo of the day. There is a website you can go to called www.halfmast.org where you can find out why flags are flying at half mast. Somewhere along the timeline we as a state and country have started flying flags at half mass for whatever individual has died. Really? Really it's no longer a huge deal like the president died. Or it's memorial day so we will honor all fallen soldiers. So I look it up because I want to know why and we in the state of Washington are honoring a fallen state trooper on March 1, 2012. Hmm doesn't tell me why it's half mast today and why it was half mast yesterday. And like my friend Yvette said tonight "He was doing his job". I have to agree with he. Also our flag no longer has meaning. So sad.

  1. I totally agree. Lowering the flag so often totally negates the impact it once had. My heart doesn't even lurch any more the way it used to when I saw a flag at half-staff.
